Game Recap

The Ludlow girls’ JV basketball team couldn’t repeat their season-opening performance, falling to Quabbin 25-17 at home Wednesday night. Despite playing a much bigger opponent, the Lions played them tough all game long, going into halftime tied 9-9 and evening the score again at 17 late in the fourth quarter. Unfortunately, it wasn’t enough as Quabbin made some clutch plays down the stretch to take the win.

Sara Costa led the way on offense with seven points, and the girls drastically improved their free-throw percentage from game one. Whitney Scott and Alyssa Moore contributed tough, aggressive work on the boards, while Julia Brillo and Kali Grimes used their athleticism to put great pressure on the opposing ball handlers.

Next week Ludlow goes on the road for the first time, traveling to Longmeadow on Monday 12/18, and then hosts Chicopee on Thursday 12/21.

Game Recap

Pittsfield – The Ludlow Lions JV (0-2) fell to the Pittsfield Generals (1-1) on Wednesday night. Pittsfield was lead by Anton Wright (15 points) and Justin Mendez (13 points). Anton was effective from deep as he finished the game with two 3’s but also had a keen ability to get to the free throw line where he shot 7 for 16.

The Lions lead early and controlled play for most of the first half. Going into half time the Lions held the momentum although they trailed by 1. Coming out of halftime the Lions scored quickly on an in-bounds play to take the early lead. The Lions would be outscored 23-9 for the remainder of the game. The Lions struggled from the free throw line again where they shot 40%. The Lions also struggled in the second half to control the boards as Pittsfield was able to get numerous offensive rebounds.

The offense showed some improvement as 9 of the 13 players who played for the Lions scored a basket. Sophomore Ivan Ouimette lead the Lions with a season high 9 points. Freshman Tom Hitchcock had another solid performance coming off the bench and chipping in with 5 points. Sophomore Anthony Fortune made his season debut by scoring 4 points and adding 3 blocked shots.

The Lions go for their first win of the season on Friday night versus Baystate Academy (0-0) at the Dunbar Community Center in Springfield.

Game Recap

Belchertown Orioles (1-0) used a 14 point quarter to pull away from the Ludlow Lions JV (0-1) team in front of a near sold crowd Friday night at Ludlow High School. The Lions led for most of the game but huge 3’s from Belchertown’s Zawistowski (3 points) and Dunigan (8 points) in the fourth quarter proved to be too much for the Lions to overcome. Freshman Michael Szewczyk led the Lions in his Junior Varsity debut by scoring 9 points. Sophomore guard Nick Teixeira started the game and finished with 7 points. Freshman Tom Hitchcock gave the Lions a spark off the bench with 6 points.
