Ludlow, Ma – After trailing 26-24 at halftime, the Ludlow Lions Junior Varsity Basketball team used a 25-14 run in the 3rd quarter to pull away from an undermanned, yet determined Athol Red Raiders team.
The Lions started the game off hot as they lead 17 to 4 after the first frame. The Red Raiders fought back in the second quarter by outscoring the Lions 22 to 7. In the end the Lions did just enough to hold on to get the win.
Freshman, Matthew Mendez had a game and career high 20 points to lead the Lions. Freshman, Braeden Schwartz added 11 points including 4 for 4 from the foul line. Sophomores, Joe Bates and Nick Henry both had strong all around games with both finishing the game with 8 points each.
The Red Raiders were lead by Dilan Fountain (18 points) and Connor Mohoney (17 points).
It is a quick turnaround for the Lions as they return to action on Wednesday night when they go on the road to face the Palmer Panthers. Game is slated to start at 5:30pm.
